Penstemon 'Sour Grapes'

A very popular variety that has unfortunately been wrongly labeled for years. Stapleford Gem has been sold as Sour Grapes.
The flower colour of proper Sour Grapes dark cobalt with a marked throat. Very distinctive.
  • Colour: darker than cobalt, some flowers dull violet blue                
  • Throat: white but with strongly defined markings in maroon
  • Height: 75cm (ft)
  • Earliest record: 1930’s

Cultivation Do's and Dont's

o    Do deadhead regularly
o    Don’t prune until spring
o    Do prune old growth when new shoots are 3-4” long
o    Do add organic matter or grit if planting in heavy wet soil
o    Do plant in a sunny position
o    Do enjoy the flowers from June to October
